The world possesses one billion firearms, 138 million more than what it had in 2006. What's surprising is that out of all, 85 percent of them are held by civilians and rest by the military and other law enforcement agencies. Interestingly, India has the second highest number of guns owned by civilians in the world after the hegemonic power, the United States of America.

Indian civilians estimated 71 million legal and illicit firearms in a survey back in 2017. The same survey quoted that an average of 6 guns per 50 people is prevalent in our country.
